Early 20th century wooden bowl from Nagaland, north-east India. Hand-carved from a single piece of solid mango wood, its irregular rounded form and richly varied brown tones have developed a distinctive patina. An old repair and traces of tar, historically applied to make the bowl watertight, add to its character and authenticity.
